Rita Still Groovin’ But Lost Her Sister.

When I was 13 years old and my sister was 20 years old, my Mom took us to the Humane  Society so each of us could pick out a puppy.  I picked out the black one with grey markings, and my sister picked out the brown one.  They were from the same litter, so the sisters had sisters. Rita and Stella.  They were 3 months old when we got them.  They were the cutest little fuzzy pot bellied babies ever.  They grew up together and loved each other very much.  Rita is not usually very interested in being bothered with playing with other dogs but her and her sister just had so much fun, too much fun sometimes as puppies.

My sister and I got older and I moved half way across the country with Rita and my sister and Stella were still back home.  I took Rita at Christmas time to visit with me and those two were just sooooo happy to see each other again.  It was like they were never apart, cuddling and playing.  It’s like that one best friend you lose touch with and then you go and see them after a few years and it’s like no time had passed. Rita was still new to being minus a leg at the time and she seemed to really gain confidence in herself after her visit with Stella.  It was her first real interaction with another dog since the surgery.

Then suddenly about 5 months ago Stella suddenly lost control of her two back legs.  They found that she had a cancerous growth on her spine.  They told my sister to either put her down, try spinal surgery, or make her comfortable for a while till it was time.  My sister took her home and built her a wheel chair.  Stella lived happily for about 4 months before she was looking very sad and getting worse.  My sister had to make the hard decision of letter her go so she didn’t feel any more pain. That was a hard day for my whole family, we all loved Stella.

Though Rita hadn’t seen Stella since Christmas, she knows she is gone, she had a connection with her sister.

we’re really sorry to hear of stella’s passing – sounds like your sister really went the distance making her a wheel chair and all. it’s so hard to let go, but it was the most selfless gifts your sister gave to her. rita is a beauty, we’ve enjoyed catching up on her blog!!

Run free of pain and rest in peace sweet Stella.

Bless you both for taking such good care of your pups.
